WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR IMPOSING A LOCAL BAR TO REENLISTMENT? There are three criteria justifying initiation of a Bar to Reenlistment. In accordance with AR 601-280, bars are appropriate for Soldiers who are: 1) untrainable; 2) unsuitable; or 3) unable to enact a family care plan.Article 2.D.1.a.5. of the Recruiting Manual states that an RE-3 reenlistment code “is not a bar to enlistment or reenlistment and shall not be, by itself, the reason to reject a prospect or applicant. … A prior service prospect with a RE …The Army uses the following RE Codes for the DD 214. RE-1 – Soldier is fully qualified for enlistment. This is the “gold standard” RE Code. RE-1A – Soldiers who received this code are ineligible to reenlist for 93 days alter date of separation. Awarded to soldiers with over 6 years of service for pay and they qualified for enlistment.• RE Code 1: May reenlist in without issue. • RE Code 2: May reenlist but restrictions may apply or if the circumstances which resulted in the code no longer apply. • RE Code 3: May normally reenlist but a waiver will probably be required. • RE Code 4: Normally not eligible to reenlist, nor join another service.
