The temperature gauge was all the way over to the hottest level. I pulled over turned off the car for about 5 minutes and then the issue stopped. As some have mentioned, cooling fans running after the car has turned off happens when the car was in the middle or just finished a regeneration cycle of the DPF. The regen raises the temperature of the DPF to "coke" the soot in the DPF, and when its hot you can smell the heat.The temperature gauge in the cluster would not move, and the radiator fans are running on high.
